Venice, also known as the Republic of Venice, was a major maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. From the 13th century up to the end of the 17th century, Venice was one of the most important centers of commerce for silk, spices and grain and main hub connecting the western world to the middle east, which made this city one of the wealthiest of that period. The incredible rich artistic and cultural heritage, the unique mix of architectural styles, and the masterpieces still today found in Venice, are symbols of Venice past grandeur.
